We offer a warm welcome to Margaret Butler, an incoming Ph.D. student at Northwestern University, focusing on biological anthropology and human biology. She is passionate about biocultural approaches to anthropological research concerning human health. Her undergraduate thesis was an exploration of the variables impacting women’s decision to breastfeed in Ithaca, NY. Maggie plans to focus her graduate research on explorations of the intersections of maternal-infant nutrition and health. She hopes to develop collaborative and interdisciplinary programs to provide support for low-income breastfeeding mothers in urban areas. She is excited to begin working with the Young Research Group, and has already begun to analyze qualitative data on infant feeding in the HWISE study.
