Exclusive Breastfeeding Social Support Scale Published

Our paper on the development and validation of an Exclusive Breastfeeding Social Support (EBFSS) scale was published this week in Maternal and Child Nutrition. This is exciting because it is the first instrument that distinguishes social support for ANY breastfeeding from that for EXCLUSIVE breastfeeding. The scale was developed using data from the PreNAPS and PostNAPS studies in Gulu, Uganda, and techniques used for scale development included exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, along with multiple validation techniques. Ultimately, three dimensions of support emerged: instrumental, emotional, and informational. We are looking forward to others validating the scale in other settings!
