Last week was Black Breastfeeding Week, an annual event that takes place from August 25th– 31st to celebrate breastfeeding among Black women around the world, and highlight the progress being made toward a more equitable breastfeeding landscape in the United States.
On Wednesday August 28th, YRG and the Chicago Region Breastfeeding Task Force co-hosted a free, community pre-screening of Chocolate Milk: The Documentaryat the Chicago Family Health Center in South Chicago(CFHC). This documentary explores the racial divide in breastfeeding among women in the U.S., centering on Black women’s experiences with breastfeeding.
PhD student Maggie Butler attended the event and assisted in co-facilitating the screening alongside Irene Webb and Lakita Burgs of CFHC andChicago Volunteer Doulas’ Executive Director Anya Tanyavutti.
