Vidya Shares Social Science Methods at Interdisciplinary Workshops

YRG postdoc, Vidya Venkataramanan, has been representing the social sciences in workshops that are traditionally targeted to engineers and ecologists. In June 2018, she was invited to present a 90-minute interactive session on community engagement at the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Nature-based Flood Management workshop in Bangkok, Thailand. She shared her love for participatory methods with government officials and educators from 10 countries across Asia to help them develop and evaluate community-focused flood management plans.

From September-December 2018, she also participated in three workshops to help develop Chicago Wilderness’ Prairies Climate Change Adaptation Plan, where she is advising the group on ways to incorporate social and community perspectives when restoring and conserving Midwestern prairies.
